San Jose – Former Costa Rican president Miguel Angel Rodriguez (1998-2002) was sentenced to five years in prison for inciting corruption. In a decision announced late Wednesday, a court in San Jose found that Rodriguez, 70, accepted bribes to grant French telecommunications firm Alcatel a multi-million-dollar contract for cellphone line. Rodriguez received 600 000 dollars in bribes, the public prosecutors alleged. However, he was found not guilty of illicit gain.
