The core of an independent Cape will be the Western Cape. However, it must be acknowledged that the present borders of the Western Cape are arbitrary and illogical. Insufficient attention has been paid to historic and geographical realities. Certain parts of the Eastern and Northern Cape are culturally part of the Western Cape. In would therefore not be surprising if citizens of these areas express a preference for their areas to be part of an independent Cape. This is an issue that will have to be dealt with by the constitutional conference.
